The inclusion of hand-harvested Sugar Kelp seaweed speaks to the island's deep connections to the sea while working with eight other carefully selected botanicals.

Isle of Harris Gin is made by the men and women of the Isle of Harris Distillery, also known as 'The Social Distillery'.

Opened in 2015, the distillery's primary purpose is to create sustainable jobs for the local population and support the island's fragile economy.

By creating beautiful spirits, the distillery generates employment opportunities for young people in particular, giving them the opportunity to live and work in their community.

SEA

Isle of Harris Gin expresses the island's long history of working with the sea.

For generations, the surrounding waters have provided the islanders with food and sustenance, from fishing to fertilizer for their crops.

Seaweed's defining botanical is hand-harvested by local diver Lewis Mackenzie in a seasonal and sustainable harvest.

Each winter, the kelp forests he manages rest and regrow, ready to be carefully harvested again in the spring.

SPIRIT

Every drop of Isle of Harris Gin is made on the island, in a small copper pot still called 'The Dotach'.

The distillers are all local men and women who have been trained at the distillery in the small town of Tarbert.

They discard the 'heads' and 'tails' of each spirit to ensure that only the highest quality 'heart' of distillation is used.

The result is an exceptionally smooth and complex gin that they take pride in bottling and named after their island.
